Birthday Breakfast

October brings birthdays and school days!  The long days of summer are cut short.  September continued with warm days of sunshine and ongoing harvest of green beans, zucchini, corn on the cob, plums, pears, and apples.  The grass is waning now, and the little calf, Gilbert, is drinking all Ginger's milk as of today.  He left a little bit for the kittens, but we will have to cut him off at night to feed the pigs and save a bit for us.  So.... October already!  We celebrated Gabe's 15th birthday!  We started school days on Monday with the cousins at the Farmhouse.  Such fun this collaboration!  We start with music practice and breakfast before Bible time with Uncle Jesse.  Then comes the three Rs during the morning hours.  I'm hoping to get the kids in a more self-directed routine so that I can slip away to the clinic in the mornings with Marshal.  Noon until 2:00, we study U.S. history and general science before lunch.  One week down, and so far, so good.  Gabe thought, "Really?!  School on my birthday?"  Didn't sound like a good idea to him.  He enjoyed his day.  Cousins made it extra special with birthday breakfast.  There was a colorful Happy Birthday sign taped to the door.  The birthday display was bedecked in camouflage, feathers, antler, game animal figures, and hand-made cards.  Gabe wore the birthday crown and thoroughly enjoyed his waffles and pancakes.
