Saturday Race

Marshal has been preparing for a running relay with a team of 12 from work. It is a good motivator for getting himself back in shape, besides the once a year military fitness test, PRT. Although I wasn't excited about the drain on time and energy involved in a big race, it has served its purpose in getting Marshal out of bed at dawn to run in the mornings. This weekend our hometown had a Fathoms of Fun festival, and I mentioned to Marshal the night before that there was a fire dept sponsored 5K Hotfoot race. There were some 50-75 yd dashes for the kids as well. So we rose early to register and enter the races. I did not don running shoes myself; I was geared with water bottles and camera.Starting Line of 5K - Marshal has a bit of sun on his red-head, blue shirt about three rows back.

Coming into the finish line, fourth overall, first in his age division. Shouldn't be surprised.

Lydia being beat off the line of the 50 yd dash. She gave that fellow 5-year-old a run for his money.

Gabe bolted right out of his shoe at the starting line of the 75 yard dash. He so wanted to impress his race-running dad. Mom had him ill-equipped in running shoes. Gabe was so disappointed as he scuffled through the race. We were so relieved he wasn't hurt, for he looked like a bird with a broken wing. Thankfully only his racing spirit was broken for now.
