Joseph Reunion

We went to Joseph, Oregon over Marshal's birthday weekend for a biannual family reunion on his dad's side.  We were reminded how beautiful the Wallowas are; not called "Oregon's Little Switzerland" for nothing.

First Knitting

My mom taught me the basics of knitting at Vacation Bible School this June!  Knit myself an imperfect white cotton washcloth on corn dog sticks!  Lydia is knitting pieces worthy of entering in the fair.  I'm just amazed I can do anything with two sticks!

July Fourth

Gabe floated his boat on Mosquito Lake.

Successfully sawed some logs up near Steamboat.

They threw in the poles too and Gabe caught a little trout for dinner.

Lamb on the grill and coleslaw accompanied a grilled trout and some bubbly white grape juice, celebrating the red, white, and blue.

Fireworks just down the road at Jonah Camp on the grass.

July Second

We brought home Oliver Kitten (named after a favorite boy who raised and tamed him) for Father's Day.  Sheba learned he is family and shared her day spot on the porch.  Oliver is becoming a true barn cat now after we found him some feline friends from the cousin's barn.  Marshal and the kids have been catching mice and the kittens gobble them whole.  Soon we hope they'll be catching them themselves!

July First

Kids must have been overnight with the cousins.  Marshal and I threw together a dinner for two!

Perennial flower garden surprise is always changing.

Early garden gave us early greens and the best crop of lamb's quarter!

Marshal's garden has some corn and climbing peas along with a nice bed of potatoes in the straw behind.

Salvaged from the lawn before Marshal mowed the carpet of wild yarrow and daisies.

Brought back a bit of Whidbey Island from my strawberry bed with an added calendula and sweet borage blossoms.  Have you ever tasted borage?  No wonder the bees hum so happily among it.  Blossoms taste like honey.  I mixed them in the sliced berries for strawberry shortcake dessert with just a touch more honey.
